I'd removed it to get better access to the hex screws on the cpu heat sink. I also put arctic silver on the northbridge heatsink. So, perhaps the sensors were off, but this is a brand new motherboard that replaced one that blew a few months ago.

The fans would kick in jet engine style during any sort of rendering or flash video.

Even worse is that I told them I suspected this was the issue and they did not address it. I assure you I will be visiting the apple store in person to tell them they did a terrible service job. New temps under load are (slightly hidden) showing 67.7C : Old temps had my CPU hitting over 100C under load : My system has been running SOOOOOO much cooler. I added Arctic Silver to each sink and reassembled. In fact, it took about one wipe to get any resin out of there. If that was the case I would have expected seeing more gel around the edges. It may have simply squished all the gel out of the contact point. Tighter than they were from the manufacturer. Perhaps there wasn't enough time to develop this bond as it was about 2 weeks, but it would seem to me that was enough time.Īdditionally the heat sinks were screwed on tight as ****. Normally the processor and heat sink contact make a bond. When I removed the heat sinks they came off with no "pop," which means to me that there was little or no thermal gel. I took the time to disassemble my mac pro down to the processors. I would ordinarily worry about dead fans, but they all appear to be working.Īny suggestions? Should I be worried? Things to check? I will blow out the case with compressed air to make sure it isn't a big lint ball, but this is weird. This is under a 99% load so all 8 cores/16 threads are working in "top". In summary, CPU A is running much hotter than CPU B. I think this is within operating specs, but it is strange as both CPUs are apparently maxed. All fans are working, but my A CPU is running at 55C and my B CPU is running at 42C. However I was curious about temps etc.I used istat menus to look at my temps. I took out all the memory and reseated and it was OK. I googled and found this was often due to bad memory or simply misseated memory. It has been running fine for a year, and recently it had the flashing power button/not boot. I can pin all 8 cores for hours at a time, with short breaks. I do scientific computing work on a base 2.26 Ghz 8 core mac pro with 20 GB of RAM.
